At Connemara, sustainability is part of our DNA
Sustainability has been at the core of Connemara business philosophy and decision-making for over 30 years.
Operating in a rural community on the shores of Clew Bay, a designated area of Special Area of Conservation (SAC), we are committed to protecting our scare resources and minimising our impact on the environment whilst running an successful indigenous business.
Connemara promotes and maintains environmentally responsible practices for the benefit of all stakeholders and the communities in which we operate. We conduct and grow our business in a manner that protects the environment and demonstrates good stewardship of our natural resources.
Connemara strives for continual improvement through the development of specific programs that address the environmental cost and impact of our activities i.e. waste minimisation, resource usage and environmental impact studies.
We are a fully certified member of the Origin Green Sustainability Charter Programme. This programme is voluntary led by Bord Bia, and links-up the food industry participants in Ireland – with the common goal of sustainable food production.
Sustainability has always been an integral part of Connemara’s’ recipe for success and it will continue to be in the years ahead.
Since July 2019, our mussel processing facility is independently certified by the Marine Stewardship Council for the environmentally responsible way in which we process our mussels – all our Irish Mussels have the MSC certification.
